Australia legspinner Adam Zampa has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to a recurrence of a shoulder injury. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bowler has flown back to Australia to seek medical advice after experiencing discomfort in his bowling arm.
Zampa featured in SRH's first two matches of the tournament as an Impact Player, returning figures of 1 for 48 and 1 for 46 in high-scoring encounters, including the record-breaking 528-run match between SRH and Rajasthan Royals. However, shoulder soreness forced him to sit out the subsequent four games.
The injury is believed to be a flare-up of a previous issue Zampa dealt with ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Despite the setback at the time, he went on to play a pivotal role in Australia’s World Cup triumph, finishing as the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker.
While there was initial hope that Zampa might return later in the season after a period of rest, SRH have chosen to move forward without him. The franchise has brought in 21-year-old Karnataka batter R Smaran as his replacement.
Zampa is now targeting a return for Australia’s next T20I series against the West Indies in the Caribbean, scheduled for late July. He remains a crucial part of Australia’s preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup, set to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The national team is set to play 19 T20Is between July and February as part of their build-up to the tournament.
